Omar Campos Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 19 September 2018 Summary of “Once Upon a Time” In Nadine Gordimer’s “Once Upon A Time," short story, the author warns that what you try to protect could be the thing you hurt. First the author explains that she couldn’t sleep, so she thought of a story to help herself relax. Being of her story Gordimer introduces the mom, dad, and son who live in an upper class neighborhood with riots a block away. Over the time crime in the suburb escalates and the family increases their security,even putting razor wire a top a tall wall. The story ends when the boy having been reading “ sleeping beauty”tries to play in the wire, imagining it to be a thicket of thorns, is hurt.
Omar Campos Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 19 September 2018 Summary of “Night Calls” In the being of the story, Marlene’s talks about how her and her father aren’t very close. Narrator explains that her mother passed away and she was sent to boarding school. Her father almost leaves their home because he is sad that her mother past away. Then he put in charge of a rare heron and everything changes. The daughter and the father become close. They take more and they improve their relationship. One night the heron gets lost. The daughter finds it, and it’s dead. She buries it so that her father wont see it. She makes bird calls so her father can have hope.
Omar Campos Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 20 September 2018 Summary of “ Rituals of Memory” Kimberly Blazer’s essay, “Rituals of memory” argues that we always come back to out roots. Blaser begins the essay with metaphor that shows readers her opinion about how relationships to family and community work. She uses her memories of the legion airs as evidence for her claim. She also mention that she lives a double life. She has a Native American education and catholic schooling and she talks about all of that defining who she is. Blasers ends by writing that our stories and memories make us who we are.

A. learned to summarize quotes so when I have to write quotes I could put them in my own words.

A. Crossed out word that I didn’t need. I went back and revise all the crossed out words. I learned not to have so many words

A.In my summary I wrote author, title, genre, big idea, next I put main points in chronological order. Finally I didn’t put no opinions.

A. I would improve it by taking my time and get the information in order and I feel like I would be able to write it with out errors.
