Omar Campos Ms. Lehmann English 2-2A 4 December 2019 We All Have Emotions “Elizabeth Berg once said, “We are readers probably more than anything else.” Since time is a limited resource, we should carefully choose the articles we give that time to. Dorothy Rowe’s article about friendship, titled “With Friends Like These,” is certainly worth your time. The author’s background contributes to the quality of this article. Dorothy Rowe’s background makes Rowe qualified to write about friendship. Rowe has experience as a psychologist as well as a degree in psychology. Rowe writes to inform her readers about friendships, emotions, and perspective. Rowe uses mainly an informal writing style by employing 1st person pronouns, for example “I,” “we,” and “our.” Rowe also utilizes internal dialogue written for a general audience. One thing Rowe lacks in her article is outside sources that readers might want for in-depth research. For general information, this could be a great place to start for all curious readers. Rowe’s article is formatted well. She uses section titles to help readers know what each section is about. This is useful for readers when they are browsing through the article. Rowe’s introduction clearly establishes her main claim early on. Rowe hooks readers by finding common ground. Her section titles show the organization of the article. Rowe transitions smoothly from idea to idea by tying the last sentence of each section into the next section, helping readers understand what Rowe is talking about. Rowe’s main claim is introduced early and referred back to in the conclusion. This helps a lot because readers can see where Rowe is coming from and why she makes the arguments she makes. What Rowe does a good job of is establishing a clear beginning and end. Rowe’s argument is useful for readers because she has experience in friendship and understands how relationships work. Rowe argues that our friendships are necessary for us to be happy, but that friendships can also be difficult because of our perspectives of ourselves and one another.Rowe supports her claim using her own experiences and real-life stories for support, but she is lacking outside research. In conclusion Rowe has the qualifications and real-life proof she needs and has her degree in psychology and experience working as a psychologist. Rowe was simple, straight forward, and informative in talking about friendships, our emotions and perspective. Rowe’s writing style is informal and in 1st person. One thing that was lacking no outside resources. My opinion is that this article is a good place to start, learning about freindships
